Being a Goalkeeper is the hardest position on the pitch. First of all you have to stop the ball going in the net. Then you also have to be able to play as an outfielder dealing with passbooks, sweeping behind your defence, setting up attacks. You have to work doubly hard in training. It can take years from starting out as a young kid to mastering your trade.

Having played at the top level for almost 20 year-end been coaching for nearly 30 years I have helped and coached some of Scotlands top goalkeepers.

Being a goalkeeper is a lonely place sometimes and as a player it can be hard losing goals and games at times especially when you really couldn't do anything about it.
I have had many a good day and bad day as a goalkeeper and you sometimes literally pick yourself off the ground and go again. Having a coach who has been there and done it all helped me to play as long as I could.

My Story
I started out at Mill United as a young kid and finally signing for Hearts at 12. Then signed professionally at 16. At 21 I signed on loan at Stenhousemuir to gain valuable experience and was Man of The Match in the challenge cup final in 1995 saving the winning penalty in the penalty shoot out.
I then went back to Hearts and spent another 8 years before moving onto Livingston where I won the CIS League Cup. The 2003/04 was a very special season and was a great and was great to be awarded the Player of the Month Award in Oct 2003. Something very rarely awarded to goalkeepers.
After moving to Dunfermline I suffered a career threatening injury and retired from the game. After a year out I signed for Livingston and went on to win the Scottish @nd Division. I then moved to Queen of The South for 2 years then retired.
